FIRE AT RASMUS TEMENOS APARTMENTS CONTAINED; COMMUNITY SEEKS SUPPORT AND PRAYERS
Houston, TX — In the early hours of the morning on [Tuesday December 10, 2024], a fire broke out at the Rasmus Temenos Apartments, a critical housing community for previously unhoused individuals in Downtown Houston. The incident was contained to three units, and fortunately, no one was injured, thanks to the swift response of the Houston Fire Department. However, the affected residents now face displacement, property loss, and emotional trauma.
“One of our troubled tenants decided to set her unit on fire this morning,” said Pastor Rudy Rasmus, Co-founder of Bread of Life Inc., and Temenos CDC. “We are incredibly grateful that no lives were lost and that the Houston Fire Fighters acted quickly to contain the blaze. But our work is far from over. We are now calling on our community for prayers and support as we help our residents recover.”
“In the face of adversity, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing safe and secure housing for all,” said Sandra Robicheaux, Executive Director of Temenos CDC. “Though we experienced a tragic incident yesterday, the swift response of the Houston Fire Department and the resilience of our community have shown that even in the darkest moments, the light of hope can prevail. At Temenos CDC, we recognize that the individuals we serve face complex mental health challenges, and it is our duty to ensure they not only have access to stable housing, but also the comprehensive support services needed to thrive. We will continue to uphold the fundamental right to housing, while empowering our residents to live fulfilling and productive lives.”
