#Amazing Community Spotlight: Community initiative with Union Pacific Railroad, Kroger Company, Mayor ProTem Martha Castex Tatum and Bread of Life Inc  to fill empty refrigerators of families further impacted by Hurricane Beryl

Hello Amazing 102.5 Listeners,

I'm Reginald Fulton, an intern at Amazing 102.5 FM, powered by Bread of Life Inc., bringing you the latest on our community’s response to Hurricane Beryl. Here’s a recap of the inspiring event at City Hall where local leaders and organizations united to support Houstonians affected by the storm.

Reggie On The Beat: A Special Report from City Hall

“Hello everyone! This is Reggie on the beat with Amazing 102.5, and I’m here at City Hall, surrounded by some truly amazing people. We’re talking about incredible support for our community in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. Let’s dive right in!” — Reggie

Union Pacific Railroad’s Generous Donation

Clint Schelbitzki, Union Pacific Railroad

Clint Schelbitzki from Union Pacific Railroad made a heartwarming announcement: the company is donating $75,000 in Kroger gift cards. This donation is aimed at helping Houstonians who lost food during the power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl.

“Many people lost everything in their fridge when the power went out for multiple days. We wanted to find a way to give back and help those most in need. We’re doing that with Kroger gift cards, distributed to families across Houston,” Clint said.

“Hurricane Beryl impacted everyone differently, whether you’re a business, an employee, or a resident. The best thing we can do is come together as a community. We’re here today, working with Bread of Life, Kroger, and the City of Houston, to distribute these gift cards to those most in need. It takes everyone coming together at the end of the day.”

This effort is a collaboration with Bread of Life, the City of Houston, and Kroger to ensure families impacted by the hurricane can replenish their food supplies.

Standing Together in Solidarity

Dr. Rudy Rasmus, Executive Director of Bread of Life Inc. addressed the crowd and emphasized the importance of community support.

”Thank each of you for caring. This is a phenomenal town that we live in. And it is moments like these, that we're reminded that, Houston really is a great great city that can come together when the time is needed.”  Executive Director Bread of Life Inc. Dr. Rudy Rasmus said to the participants in this event.

Helping Hands Program Expands Support

Martha Castex-Tatum, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Houston

Martha Castex-Tatum announced the expansion of the Helping Hands program, which began in District K and is now citywide. Thanks to Union Pacific's $75,000 contribution, the program will help fill the fridges of residents who lost food during the hurricane.

“We’re very excited that Union Pacific has joined us with a $75,000 contribution in the form of Kroger gift cards for us to give to residents who unfortunately lost everything in their refrigerator and freezer,” said Martha Castex-Tatum.

Philanthropy and Community Impact

Martha Castex-Tatum highlighted the ripple effect of kindness:

“Kindness begets kindness, and joy in giving has a ripple effect. The very first company that joined us was HNTB, making a $10,000 contribution in Kroger gift cards. Kroger matched it, and we started with churches donating supplies. This initiative addresses the needs of over 2 million people who were left without power after Hurricane Beryl.”
