As we gather on Saturday, September 26th, to hold a job fair at Bread of Life Inc. Community Clinic, it is important to consider how valuable it is to hold community engagement. Our job fair will offer various opportunities to connect with employers in the Houston area and get involved in the workforce.
Sometimes, we overlook just how necessary it is to ensure job security. Our youth are our future, but there seems to be a lack of participation, as much of our youth is unemployed or out of school. This issue could greatly impact our development and cause us to face social consequences. According to California State University, youth who are not involved in the community are at a higher risk of becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol. This could also link to an increase in youth violence and gang activity. These repercussions would result from not advising the younger generations to take action in their communities and interpersonal lives.
When we encourage and support young adults to take part in leadership and community roles, it will distract them from the need to rebel, preventing such consequences from occurring. Taking the initiative as a young adult by finding employment, pursuing a good education, and attending community events such as our job fair could not only benefit you but overall improve the state of the issue.
Though community disengagement in youth may not seem like such a widespread problem, when statistics are considered, it’s evident how badly this could affect our population. According to worldbank.org, only 44% of the global youth population has both a formal education and formal employment in the year 2021. Workforce development is crucial in preparation to enter the real world after college. With problematic numbers in workforce/educational participation, it could be a troublesome era for society in the near future.
